Excellent explanation. At the previous podcast I understood that this phrasal verb could be used to express this idea . I remind another one very close to this: “run out”.

In all attractions of disney parks there are employees helping on queue organization. They insist on repeating the phrase “all the way down”.

That’s true. They want you to go to the end – all the way down! (até o fim)

Tim, e se eu quisesse dizer que “a bateria está acabando muito rápido”, eu usaria algo como “my battery is draining fast”?

Yes, Rodrigo, that’s correct. Or you can say “It’s running down fast”, too.

I was driving and talking to my husband when my cell phone went dead.

Serves you right! [Bem feito!] You are not supposed to drive and talk on your cell phone at the same time! 😉

Hi Tim Our vacation in Guarujá was dead good, but my cell phone was absolutely dead. The cell phone of my sister was suddenly dead too. And I think that the cell phones of other people was certainly dead.

At least you enjoyed an “uninterupted” vacation! 🙂

I was talking to my friend when my battery went dead. There wasn’t problem because he lives in the same building that I live in.

So all you had to do was yell out the window. 🙂

Hi Tim

I was talking to my sister When the battery went dead.

Time to charge it back up again!

Hi Tim,
Yesterday, I was driving and using the GPS on my cell phone when the battery ran donw.

That happens when you use the GPS on the cell phone; you need to buy a standalone GPS device for your car.

i was playing with my cell phone, when the battery went dead.

I hate it when I forget to charge my phone up and it runs down on me in the middle of a game!

Teacher, can I say “the battery is empty” or “is low”?

Yes, you can say that, too.
