Inglês Todos os Dias #83: Como dizer ‘cair nessa’ em inglês (2)

Every Halloween, Jimmy Kimmel asks parents to tell their kids they ate all their Halloween candy and record their wide-eyed reactions. It's a little cruel, but many of their reactions are hilarious. Some kids don't 'cair nessa', though. Check out the video, then listen to our mini-podcast today and learn how to say 'cair nessa' in English.

A friend of mine said to me she wanted to be a nun but I didn´t fall for it.

Why not? Is she not very religious? 🙂

Hi Tim,
First of all congrats for your website and teaching method. It is really pretty good!!!

“My wife is intending to buy less shoes and handbags this year however I didn´t fall for it.”

Have a nice day !!!

I wouldn’t fall for it, either, Ferreira! 🙂

Tim said I could watch the video, but I did’n fall for it… (It is not available in my country?)

Are you serious, Claudia? What country are you in?

Hi Tim.

Isn’t there another way to say that? Like “I don’t buy it” something like that?

Thank you

Hello, Sandra! “I don’t buy it” is a similar expression that means “não engulo”, “essa não cola”.

Yeah, I know. But for me it has almost the same meaning. “Não engulo” = “não caio nessa”. Of course it depends on the context. Don’t you think?

True, Sandra. They are very similar expressions. “I don’t buy it” is a little more serious and sounds a little harsher (mais duro) than “fall for it”, in my view.

I got it!! Thank you so much Tim!

Yeah, I know. But for me it has almost the same meaning. “Não engulo” = “não caio nessa”. Of course it depends on the context. Don’t you think?

My son asked me some money to buy some school stuff, but I didn’t fall for it. I knew that the money was to buy candies.

I’m glad that’s not true, Vicente!

The  taxy  driver  said  me , he found  same  million  in his  car , hawever  i  didn´t fall for it .

If he had found a million in his car, he wouldn’t be working as a taxi driver (I don’t think). 🙂

My husband said we will travel on vacation, but I didn’t fall for it.

That’s too bad it isn’t true, Graziela. Maybe you should come to Jundiaí for a visit. 🙂

What a mean customer! 🙂
