Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. It is observed on the last Monday of May.  It is a day to remember and honor soldiers who gave their lives while in military service to their country.

Memorial Day is also the day that marks the unofficial beginning of the summer season.
Most schools close for summer vacation before or shortly after Memorial Day.
