A friend of mine is going to marry next month.

Nice, Rosane! Are you going to the wedding?

Hello, Tim
I was with a friend of mine at a restaurant yesterday. It was good!

I always enjoying going out to eat with a friend!

Hi, Tim! How’s it going?
These translations sound strange indeed.

Sorry, but I don’t understand what’s the difference in these sentences.

A friend of mine told me about your site.
A friend of mine – Um amigo meu

and

My friend told me about your site.
My friend – Meu Amigo

Is it not the same?

In Portuguese has the same meaning. “Um amigo meu” and “meu amigo”, I can say like in these sentences below:

Um amigo meu me contou sobre seu site.
Meu amigo me contou sobre seu site.

Do you highlight only the translations?

Thanks!
Emerson

Hello, Emerson! It’s the same in English and Portuguese: a friend of mine (um amigo meu) and my friend (meu amigo). The difference is that “a friend of mine” is more general, less personal.

Hi teacher! You guessed it! that friend I told last podcast is a boy!Today a friend of mine (another) told me that he read my name at your today podcast!

Cool, Marilene! It’s great to see that you have friends who participate here, too! If you want, you can say “another friend of mine”.

Ok. Thanks very much teacher!

my husband told me about your site.

I found out about your site through Google.

1. A friend of mine told me that he is going to USA next month.

2. Why that girl is staring at you. Don’t worry, she is a friend of mine. Maybe she isn’tt certain that is me because we haven’t seen each other for a long time, so she is shy to come over and ask something.

Great sentences, José Luiz! You used several of the new expressions we learned recently!

A friend of mine is coming to Teresina this week.

That’s great! Are you going to show him around the city?
